No video player needed
Unlike MP4, GIFs don't require a video player or codec. They display natively in every browser, email client, and operating system — no plugins, no compatibility issues.
Private & secure
Your video files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed on our servers, never shared with third parties, and permanently deleted after 1 hour.

How it works

1
Upload your MP4
Drag and drop your MP4 video or click to browse. Works with any standard MP4 up to 25 MB on the free plan. Short clips under 30 seconds produce the best GIFs.
2
Select GIF output
GIF is selected by default. You can also output WEBM or keep the original MP4 from the format picker. No settings to adjust — Formatly picks the right frame rate automatically.
3
Download instantly
Your GIF is ready within seconds. Click Download — the link is valid for 15 minutes.

Common questions

Why is the GIF larger than the original MP4?

GIF is an old format (1987) that uses a 256-colour palette and a simple LZW compression algorithm — much less efficient than modern video codecs like H.264 used by MP4. A 10-second MP4 that's 2 MB can easily become a 10–20 MB GIF. For sharing in places that support video, consider using WEBM or keeping the MP4 — they'll look better and load faster.

Does the GIF include audio?

No — the GIF format has no audio support. The output will be a silent animated loop. If you need a format that preserves audio, convert to WEBM or keep the MP4 format instead.

What's the best length for an MP4-to-GIF conversion?

Clips under 15 seconds produce the most usable GIFs. Longer clips result in very large file sizes, reduced colour fidelity, and slower download times. For longer videos, trim to the key moment before converting — most video editors let you export a clip range before uploading.

Is there a file size limit?

Free users can convert MP4 files up to 25 MB without an account, or up to 10 conversions per day with a free account. Pro users get 500 MB per file and 3,000 credits a month. Business users get up to 5 GB.
