What sizes are in the .ico?
16×16, 32×32, 48×48 and 256×256 — the standard favicon set. Browsers and Windows pick the sharpest size automatically.
My JPG isn't square — is that a problem?
No — non-square images are centred and padded on a transparent background, so nothing is cropped. A square source still looks best.
Will the white JPG background show in my favicon?
JPG can't store transparency, so a white background stays white. For a transparent icon, start from a PNG or SVG with a transparent background.
Is there a file size limit?
