How it works
Common questions
Why convert AAC to MP3?
AAC is Apple's default audio format and the standard for iTunes and Apple Music downloads. While AAC actually has better sound quality than MP3 at the same bitrate, MP3 is the universal language of audio — it plays on every car stereo, fitness watch, old iPod, and Windows / Linux system without fuss. If you need maximum compatibility, MP3 is the safer choice.
Will the audio quality drop?
Some quality is always lost when re-encoding between two lossy formats (AAC → MP3). But at 320 kbps MP3 — which is what Formatly uses by default — the difference is inaudible to almost any listener. If you want a lossless copy, convert to WAV or FLAC instead.
What about M4A files?
M4A is essentially AAC audio in an MP4 container — Apple's preferred wrapper. Our M4A → MP3 converter handles it directly, including iTunes and Apple Music files (provided they're not DRM-protected — old Apple Music downloads with DRM can't be converted by any tool).
Is there a file size limit?
Free users can convert AAC files up to 25 MB without an account, or up to 10 conversions per day with a free account. Pro users get 500 MB per file and 3,000 credits a month. Business users get up to 5 GB.
